What you will pay
These are the typical installed prices we see across Raleigh, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Youngsville, Franklinton and the rest of the Triangle. Every job gets a written price before any work starts.
| Job | Typical price |
|---|---|
| Torsion springs, pair (most homes) | $275 – $450 |
| Extension springs, pair (older or lighter doors) | $200 – $350 |
| Lift cables, both sides | $150 – $250 |
| Nylon roller set (often done at the same visit) | $150 – $275 |
| Service call and diagnosis (waived when you approve the repair) | $79 |
What changes the price
- Door size and weight. A 16-foot double door can weigh 200 pounds or more and needs larger, more expensive springs than a single door.
- Torsion or extension. Torsion springs sit on a bar above the door. Extension springs run along the tracks on each side. Some older doors are worth converting to torsion while we are there.
- Standard or high-cycle springs. Standard springs are rated for about 10,000 cycles. High-cycle springs cost a little more and last two to five times longer, which pays off on a door you use as your front door.
- Other worn parts. A snapped spring often frays a cable or knocks a roller loose. We show you what is worn and you decide what to fix.
Signs your spring is broken
- You heard a loud bang from the garage, like a gunshot.
- There is a gap in the long spring above the door.
- The opener hums or strains, or the door lifts a few inches and stops.
- The door feels extremely heavy when you try to lift it by hand.
What to do right now
Leave the door closed. Pull the red emergency release only if the door is fully down. Don’t keep pressing the opener button. If a car is trapped inside or the door is stuck open at night, call us. That is what the 24/7 line is for.
Should you replace both springs?
Yes. Springs on the same door have done the same number of cycles. When one breaks the other is close behind, and replacing only one leaves the door unbalanced and brings you back for a second service call.
How long it takes
About 45 to 90 minutes. We weigh the door, measure the old spring (wire size, inside diameter and length), install a matched pair, balance the door so it holds at mid-height on its own, and reset the opener’s force.
Questions to ask before anyone comes out
- Is the price for both springs, installed?
- Is the service call fee waived if I approve the repair?
- Are the springs sized to my door’s weight, and are high-cycle springs an option?
- What warranty comes with the springs and the labor?
- Can you come today?
